BASIC ROCK CLIMBING INSTRUCTION I

This rock climbing class is offered every Saturday for beginners and those afraid of heights

-Individual registrations welcome -
Special summer time classes meet at 7:00 a.m. and end approximately 11 a.m. July and August.

For the beginner or the newcomer!
How to Climb
Many people think that rock climbing is an upper body oriented sport. The fact of the matter is rock climbing primarily uses legs, accurate foot placements and balance. Being able to do a pull up is not a prerequisite to learning to rock climb. If you have an abilty to walk, a healthy respect for heights and a desire to try rock climbing, you have met the prerequisite. Our clients ages have ranged from four year old rascals to an eighty four year old grandpa. Nearly half of our clientle are women climbers that tend to excell at the art of climbing.

This one day rock climbing instruction curriculum begins with "ground school" in which we go bouldering (rock climbing low to the ground) learning and implementing spotting, precision footwork, refininement of balance , body weight transfering, awareness and use of rock features (hand holds and foot holds), energy conservation techniques and choreographing individual moves. This confidence building exercise in footwork, balance and trust are key to your individual progress and enjoyment.

Climbing InstructionFollowed by our "Bouldering Session" we continue with our ground school. This includes explanations on rock climbing equipment and its proper use and care. Two variations of the figure 8 knot, belaying (a rock climber's safety system), communication signals and climbing terms are also taught and practiced during ground school. The rest of the day you are practicing your belaying/ lowering and climbing skills on top-rope protected climbs up to 80 feet. This means you will be climbing on real rock outside. Learning to rock climb in a place with incredible natural beauty make for an unforgettable quality experience. Combine the Basic Rock Climbing Instruction I with our Basic Rock Climbing II for our most popular class, Basic Rock Climbing Weekend.

Cost: $105 (Cost includes all climbing equipment and climbing instruction) This is our summer time rates for July thru August. September thru June rates are $150 per participant.

Minimum ratio is 3 students to 1 guide ratio.Learning to Climb

As you will see your guide works very hard and is extremely skilled and gratuity for your guide is customarily fifteen to twenty percent when you are pleased with their performance.
